Egyptian Exchange Weekly Wrap 10-14Aug08 …1

Posted by Ghareb on August 14, 2008

The most interesting week we didn’t see long time

The Week begins as regular dropping slowly with the average speed until the Wednesday the market press the clutch many times LOL and then dropped aprox. 5%, the small investors throw their holding with any prices, the market rebound little this day and end the week in Thursday with a complete rebound

Note: the rebound erased Wednesday loses only, On weekly basis the market loused -7.39%, and there is long way before we talk about any complete rebound, this is as usual the traders rebound, and the market will continue with the congestion and his way down

alot of activity this week in many stocks, also a good number of stocks made All Time Low

Orascom to Raise $200M in Swiss listing

Posted by Ghareb on April 30, 2008

Egyptian tycoon Samih Sawiris’ Orascom Development Holding AG could raise about $200 million from its planned listing in Switzerland, providing the firm with fresh funds and allowing the Swiss bourse to shine with a rare public offering.

Orascom Development said it will issue up to 1.25 million new shares in a public offering in Switzerland and a private placement with institutional investors in Europe. The offering will be led by UBS AG (UBS). Analysts say the company could attract about 210 million Swiss francs, or $200 million.

The final inflow could be about CHF20 million higher should UBS make use of an over-allotment option, in which the bank could subscribe to up to 185,000 new registered shares of Orascom Development, analysts said.

The listing, set for May 15, comes amid plans to relocate Sawaris’s Cairo-based Orascom Hotels & Development SAE (ORHD.CI) to Switzerland. The company plans to build a ski-resort in Andermatt, which is located in the central part of the Alpine country.

The offering is also a rare opportunity for the Swiss stock exchange. Since the beginning of the year, the Swiss bourse has managed to attract only one company, HBM BioVentures AG, an investment firm which listed its shares in February.

Stock exchanges in Italy and Germany similarly have struggled to attract new players this year. According to a study by PriceWaterhouseCoopers the number of initial public offerings in Europe fell to 70 in the first quarter of 2008, down from 139 in the year-earlier period, while the capital raised dropped 81% to EUR1.9 billion from EUR10.6 billion.

Meanwhile, analysts said Orascom’s offering is likely to attract a flurry of interest as the Egyptian real-estate company, which owns tourists resorts and hotels in Egypt, Oman and the United Arab Emirates, is growing fast. In 2007, net profit more than doubled to around CHF92 million while revenue grew to around CHF360 million.

“Both the listing in Switzerland and the issue of new registered shares will bring benefits to the group and contribute to the implementation of our international growth strategy,” said Orascom Chairman and Chief Executive Sawiris. “Furthermore, it will strengthen our financial position and enhance the international standing of the group.”

Sawiris, who is a member of Egypt’s most prominent business family, has an estimated net worth of about $3 billion. The Sawiris family fortune is valued at more than $20 billion, making the family the richest in Egypt, according to Forbes magazine’s annual list of the wealthy. Founded by Onsi Sawiris in the 1950s, the Orascom group started life as an Egyptian construction company.

Orascom, meanwhile, is expected to invest about $1 billion in Switzerland, where it aims to build a resort with several hotels, 50 villas and a golf course. The construction of the resort is expected to be launched in spring, 2009. The company is also in the process of developing other resorts in Oman, Mauritius, the United Arab Emirates and Morocco.

The offering includes an exchange offer of one share of Orascom Development Holding AG for 10 shares of Orascom Hotels & Development SAE. The majority of Orascom Hotels & Development shareholders have backed Sawiris’ plan, under which the company will maintain secondary listings in Cairo and Alexandria.
